OBJECTIVE:
My objective is to contribute to the world of science through creative research in
materials science and polymer chemistry.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, May 1996
Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio
Expect to graduate with honors; GPA = 3.96
AWARDS RECEIVED:
National Collegiate Science Award
National Merit Scholar
Outstanding Student in General Chemistry
Gordon McQueston Scholarship for Excellence in Physical Chemistry
Alumni Undergraduate Research Award
SUMMER JOBS:
1995 Summer Undergraduate Research Program
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
Blacksburg, Virginia
Undergraduate Researcher. Synthesized high-performance polymers by ring-opening of
oligomeric macrocycles. Synthesized the macrocycles and optimized reaction conditions
for dichloro- starting compounds.
1994 NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates
Bowling Green State University
Bowling Green, Ohio
Undergraduate Researcher. Carried out photo-initiated polymerization reactions and
interpreted results using GPC and UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Characterized and proved
the existence of the curcumin free radical.
1993 NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates
Bowling Green State University
Bowling Green, Ohio
Undergraduate Researcher. Determined the pKa's of curcumin and used
spectrophotometry to examine curcumin's behavior at different pH's.
