Copyright (C) 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 Files in this directory: intlpop_DECstation208.tar.Z IntlPop v2.0.8 distribution file. readme.txt (this file) Description, installation instructions, and hardware/software requirements of IntlPop. * Be sure you switch to 'binary' mode before transferring these files to your system. Simply type 'binary' at the ftp prompt. IntlPop ------- IntlPop is a population change simulation program. Factors such as Birth Rate, Life Expectancy, and Migration Rate affect population growth. IntlPop allows you to manipulate these variables and simulate population growth based on your values. The version of IntlPop in this directory runs on DECstations under X-Windows. Installation ========= This program is distributed as a 'tarred' and 'compress'ed archive file. 1) Locate the distribution files. 2) Uncompress the file intlpop_DECstation208.tar.Z: type: uncompress intlpop_DECstation208.tar 3) Untar the file intlpop_DECstation208.tar type: tar -xvf intlpop_DECstation208.tar The programs files will be extracted under the subdirectory named intlpop that will be created under your current working directory. Running the Programs. ===================== To run IntlPop: 1) Change to the directory to which it was installed 2) Type: intlpop & Requirements to Run IntlPop ====================================== Hardware Requirements --------------------- - DECstation - Mouse - 3 MB Hard drive space. Software Requirements --------------------- - Ultrix version 4.x - X Windows User's Manual ============= Once IntlPop is installed, the IntlPop User's Manual is in the directory //info (eg. ~/intlpop/info). It is in three formats: Format File Name -------------- ----------- LaTeX intlpop.tex Post Script intlpop.ps ASCII text intlpop.doc Technical Manual ================ A technical manual describing how to change the configuration of IntlPop is also provided. This document is found in the same directory as the User's Manual. It is in three formats: Format File Name -------------- ----------- LaTeX iptm.tex Post Script iptm.ps ASCII text iptm.doc Laboratory Exercises ==================== A sample of a classroom or laboratory assignment is also included in three formats: Format File Name ---------------- ----------- Word Perfect 5.1 exercise.wp Post Script exercise.ps ASCII text exercise.doc The LaTeX format is included so that you may use LaTeX to compile, view, and print the manual. Since you need LaTeX to do that, we have included two other formats. The Post Script format requires a PostScript printer or GhostScript. The plain ASCII text format may be printed on any standard printer with the following UNIX command: lpr intlpop.doc The Word Perfect version of exercise.doc may be edited with many popular word processors.
