Interfacial grain boundary energy exists, bonding atoms together along
an interface
- Similar in behavior to surface energy
- Increases as the degree of misorientation between
the two boundaries increases
- Interfacial energy is dependent upon:
- Boundary type
- Greatest for external boundaries
